Selfridges welcomes the Slow Toy Awards

The Slow Toy Awards, which opened only a few weeks ago, are well underway and have had an unprecedented response so far. The team are delighted with the significant level of interest from the toy industry, but some recent news is causing great excitement! Thanks to the involvement of one of the country’s leading department stores the first ever Slow Toy Awards are sure to be a huge success.

Having heard about the awards the team from the much loved and prestigious store, Selfridges, wanted to get involved, a development that will undoubtedly put The Slow Toy Movement on the map! The new partnership will not only see the top ten be unveiled at an official press event to be held at Selfridge’s toy department on 30th October, but the individual winners will also have their product on sale at Selfridges’s Oxford Street store for the Christmas season!

With entries flooding in and the recent developments the first ever  Slow Toy awards, which aim to recognise the ‘real toys’ on the market that provide children far more than noise and flashing lights as a form of entertainment, is set to be a big success. The team are passionate about bringing back the educational abacus, the beautifully crafted wooden toy and the much loved dolls house that encourages creativity and it is therefore wonderful to have such great interest in the campaign from the industry, as well as the commitment from one of the biggest names in retail!

Founder of the original movement, Thierry Bourret, comments: ‘To have our awards recognised by an establishment as prestigious as Selfridges is really something. My aim is to inspire the industry and put Slow Toys on everyone’s radar and I am confident we will achieve this goal. Looking at the current selection of entries, we already have a wonderful range of products so the competition is certainly going to be tough!
